Peter Blum Gallery is pleased to exhibit new paintings by Luisa Rabbia and sculptures by Joyce J. Scott for The Art Show organized by the Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA).

Luisa Rabbia (b. 1970, Italy) explores the psycho-social nuances of humanity, from theindividual sphere to the collective experience. Weaving together the visible and the invisible into an expressive and personal language, her work depicts and comments on theinterconnection among all living beings. Each form merges and converges with the other, perpetually transforming and intertwining among representations of humanity and bodiesevoking landscapes. Her intricately layered ink and watercolor paintings feature fields of deep color among light washes, all grounded in a series of intricate and minute marks.

Solo institutional exhibitions include The Drawing Hall, Bergamo, Italy (2022); Collezione Maramotti, Reggio Emilia, Italy (2018); Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston, MA (2015). Rabbia is a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant recipient (2022).

Joyce J. Scott (b. 1948, USA) delves into the extremes of human nature by conflating humor and horror as well as beauty and brutality. Scott’s distinctive figurative sculptures infuse a deep sense of humanity into complex societal and political issues that often center around the experience of the Black diaspora. Combining finely crafted free-form glass bead constructions with that of blown glass and found objects, she critiques matters of racism, misogyny, violence, and cultural stereotypes while also exploring themes of spiritual healing.

Solo institutional exhibitions include Seattle Art Museum, WA (2024 – 25); Baltimore Museum of Art, MD (2024); and Crocker Art Museum, Sacramento, CA (2024). Scott is a MacArthur Fellowship recipient (2016). Institutional collections include Brooklyn Museum of Art, NY; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA; and Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY.
