Goings on About Town: Agnes Martin
March 3, 2008

Blanket adulation can ultimately do more harm than good to an artist’s reputation, so it seems fair to observe that some things in this small survey of Martin’s works on paper (dating from 1960 through her last-known drawing, made in 2004) are better than others. There isn’t a dud, however, in the bunch. Within her famously minimal parameters of grids, dots, and earth- or sky-toned washes, she seems to have been incapable of making an uninteresting mark, and many of the works—most about the size of an album cover—are breathtaking. Through March 15. (Blum, 99 Wooster St. 212-343-0441.)
