Noteworthy exhibitions at commercial galleries, from emerging names to rediscovered talents

The US painter John Zurier's experiences in Iceland over the past ten years figure heavily in this exhibition of new works. His abstract paintings, which stem in part from a Colour Field tradition, draw inspiration from the air and colour of the island. The new works also retain a record of how they were made, especially in the layered underpainting and scrape markings the artist has left visible. As the art critic David Ebony has written, Zurier's work is "at once ethereal and resolute." This is the first show in the gallery's new downtown location. Prices range from $20,000 to $60,000. P.P.
