JOSEF ALBERS: ‘FORMULATION:
ARTICULATION, 1972,’ through May 8. This headlong plunge into all things Josef
Albers (1888-1976) presents a portfolio of 127 silk-screens that sums up his
art and thought to a remarkable degree — especially if you read the “Statements
of Content” explaining each motif. A horizontal installation aids absorption,
which can transform your understanding of both Albers in particular and
abstraction in general, revealing it to be, unexpectedly, an art of everyday
life. Peter Blum, 99 Wooster Street , (212) 343-0441, peterblumgallery.com. (Smith)
