This Road Goes Somewhere

Los Angeles artist Ruben Ochoa’s Collapsed looks like a generic riff on Minimalism, earthworks, and nineties Festivalism: A huge chunk of pavement leans against a wall at Peter Blum, where reddish dirt covers it and the floor. Walk under the slab to the other side, however, and the experience ceases to be derivative, instead filling one’s head with thoughts of artifice, illusion, and ingenuity. - JERRY SALTZ
